The Korean intellectual Property Office, as of July 1, 2003, accepts design applications of Computer Generated Graphics such as Graphic User Interface (e.g. a website GUI, software GUI, and mobile GUI), icons (e.g. an application icon, tool icon, and GUI icon), and graphic images (e.g. a character, screen saver, contents graphic, 3D animation, and emoticon). This change has been anticipated for sometime now due to emerging technology and proliferation of cyber lifestyle in the daily lives of Koreans. However, there is greater uncertainty up ahead as IP protection enters into the cyberspace, and this presentation seeks to share with the audience as to what IP practitioners should expect to see in the near future where the virtual and real world clashes.
