Bio for Richard P. Beem for AIPPI-MIE 2003 Conference Richard (Rich) Beem established his patent law practice after 25 years of experience in engineering and patent law. He assists US and international clients in the fields of chemicals, plastics, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, electronics, e-commerce, and telecommunications. Rich applies innovative approaches to patent issues for preparation and prosecution of design and utility patent applications, infringement and validity opinions, litigation, trials and appeals in federal courts, negotiation, mediation, licensing and patent business strategy. He has published and lectured on the value of patents nationally and internally, serves as co-chair of the ABA/IPL Amicus Curiae Briefs committee and spoke at the AIPPI-MIE International Conference in Budapest in 1994 on the topic of “Preparing the Patent Specification for Filing in the United States.” Born in Chicago, Beem grew up in Wisconsin where he was a high school state champion wrestler. After receiving his B.S. in chemical engineering from Iowa State University in 1979, he worked in refinery operations for Amoco Oil and in technical sales for Nalco Chemical. He received his J.D. with honors from the University of Houston in 1985, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif and served as an Editor of the Houston Law Review. He served two years in a judicial clerkship with the Honorable Edward S. Smith, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Washington, D.C. |
